Catherine Galasso: on “get dancing”
December 8, 2015
“I initiated this project because I wanted to see these dances that my father and Andy collaborated on together, some of them created before I was born. Remaking them is about me being able to see them live, but also about giving them new life and allowing others to see them as well. Another motivation behind remaking them here in New York is because I felt that if I didn’t bring them, they may not be seen here again otherwise, and de Groat’s history with this city might disappear. This is archiving through re-performance. It’s my way of passing this choreographer’s work on to a new generation, in an effort to keep this history alive.”
Catherine Galasso on get dancing, an evening of works by and in collaboration with choreographer Andy de Groat (as well as a new work inspired by him) which premieres this Thursday-Saturday at Danspace Project.
