Announcing Fall 2019 at Danspace Project!

August 9, 2019

Kayla Farrish by Kerime Konur.

Friday, August 9, 2019.

Tickets are on sale today for Danspace Project’s Fall 2019 season:

New commissions from Kayla Farrish, Jerron Herman & Molly Joyce, and Sam Kim !

The NYC premiere of Autumn Knight: WALL, performed by a cast of local NYC-based femme/black-identifying artists, presented in collaboration with The Studio Museum in Harlem !

Fresh new work in progress from dance artists Doug LeCours, Jo McKendry, Michael Parmelee, Hadley Smith, Ogemdi Ude, and Rourou Ye at DraftWork, curated by Ishmael Houston-Jones !

Since Winter 2019, each Danspace Project commissioned artist has received a week-long production residency in Danspace’s home at St. Mark’s Church prior to the premiere of their new work. In addition, a series of week-long research residencies this fall will provide time and space for crucial experimentation for artists like Bessie Award-winning choreographer Alice Sheppard, who will explore the architectural possibilities of Danspace, and Algerian-born choreographer Nacera Belaza, who will host a workshop and develop new work as part of Danspace’s upcoming 13th Platform.

With the 45th anniversary of our founding approaching this winter, and the 10th anniversary of our acclaimed Platforms series, we’re excited to share with you that our 13th Platform (February-March 2020) will be curated by artist and performer, Okwui Okpokwasili, and Danspace’s Executive Director/Chief Curator, Judy Hussie-Taylor. The Platforms were initiated in 2010 by Hussie-Taylor and hailed by the Bessie Awards as having “expanded the ways that dance can engage with the world around it.” Read: A Performance Artist Testing the Limits of Her Own Endurance (T Magazine)

Buy your tickets online now or by phone at (866) 811-4111! We can’t wait to see you in September!
