What would a sandcastle look like if it were built by artists like David Brooks, Jamie Isenstein, and Ghost of a Dream? If we could make it to Rockaway Beach in time we would find out at Creative Time’s second annual Artist Sandcastle Competition. It starts today at 5pm and it’s still on despite a little rain!
Tomorrow our fabulous fellow St. Mark’s Church residents, Incubator Arts Project, host their Annual BBQ Benefit. Tickets start at just $20 for all you can eat delicious BBQ and drinks. We heard twitter rumors of a “hummus flight” via Decadent Dale’s and we are intrigued. It’s in the gorgeous garden here at St. Mark’s Church from 7pm-all night.
The Park Avenue tunnel opens up to pedestrians, thanks to artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, who has created an interactive light and sound installation inside this 1,400 foot tunnel. Summer Streets recommends arriving by 11am because it’s sure to be popular and it’s only open between the hours of 7am-1pm.
Soundings: A Contemporary Score is MoMA’s first major sound art exhibition featuring work by 16 contemporary sound artists and it opens tomorrow.
Several of us are headed out of town this weekend, but a few Danspace staffers and friends will be reintroduced to their early-‘90s selves at the They Might Be Giants concert tomorrow night at Prospect Park Bandshell. It’s free ($3 suggested donation).
