Dear Friends,

We are working very closely with Eiko on her upcoming PLATFORM 2016: A Body in Places (February 17 – March 23, 2016). ​It’s been a charged and dynamic process. And​ it has meant that I’ve spent more time than usual walking the streets​ of the East Village​ looking up at buildings that used to be Yiddish ​t​heaters​, synagogues, churches, bookstores, jazz clubs and ​​​reading plaques marking the homes of artists, musicians, poets and radicals in search of potential performance sites for Eiko.

We all know East Village is changing but it is still a great community of ​brilliant ​arts/performance organizations, friendly shop keepers, dancers, writers, musicians, and​. . .​ women chefs!! If you are staying in NYC over the holidays or if you are hosting guests​ from out of town,​ I’d recommend checking out some fantastic, new(ish) restaurants with extraordinary women chefs: Sara Jenkins’s Porsena, Hong Thaimee’s Ngam and café Fresco with chef Venetia Iliopoulos– all walking distance from Danspace Project and St. Mark’s Church.

And, of course, don’t forget our old school favorites on 2nd Avenue: Veselka, Pangea, Ukrainian East Village Restaurant and, finally re-opened after last year’s explosion, the legendary vegetarian favorite B&H.
