Lance Gries on “IF Immanent Field”

March 18, 2014

This weekend Lance Gries generously invited us into a rehearsal and shared some beautiful graphics for the score of his IF  Immanent Field, which premieres on Thursday.

Gries holds a belief that a primary field of shared conscious energy pervades and connects all things. His first group work in almost 15 years, performed by Gries, Diane Madden, Jimena Paz, and Juliette Mapp, considers how dancers, as masters of moving consciousness into action and form, access and create from this energy.

Lighting, designed by Carol Mullins, defines the interior of St. Mark’s Church as the audience enters into a sparse environment that develops into a theater-in-the-round over time. A multi-layered sound score by Ryan Seaton uses recordings from various environments, from which an eclectic sound vocabulary emerges.

IF  Immanent Field runs Thursday through Saturday.
