Congratulations Eiko!
October 24, 2016
Congratulations to Eiko Otake on the Special Citation Award from the Bessies Selection Committee for your Platform 2016: A Body in Places “exhibition unfolding over six weeks” at Danspace Project.
The Special Bessies’ citation for Eiko’s “Platform 2016: A Body in Places” presented and produced by Danspace Project reads:
“For making herself ‘radically available’ in public and private spaces, and actively engaging with pressing political and environmental issues of our time. For collaborating with a wide range of artists through performances, readings, films, discussions and rituals to evoke the power and meaning of the human body inhabiting a planet in crisis.”
The entire Danspace Project staff and board put their hearts, minds, bodies, and souls into this historic Platform including: 21 solos throughout the East Village, a 24-hour vigil, a weekly book club, films, weekly installations, workshops, conversations, and special projects, 50+ artists… There are no words for the small and large miracles pulled off every day.
Working closely with Eiko and co-curator Lydia Bell and so many others on this Platform was an honor.
Many, many thanks to all of our generous Board members, donors, members, partners, and Fellow Travelers for supporting this Platform 2016.
