Alfred Jensen, whose painting found powerful energy in charts and diagrams and a pure response to color.

Cynthia Ozick, whose essay “She: Portrait of an Essay as a Warm Body” argues for the importance of a meandering mind.

Joan Jonas’ Double Lunar Dogs, which I saw at the Contemporary Art Museum in Houston in 1981. Joan takes whatever she needs from whatever discipline to make her own recipe for a moving personal idiosyncratic artwork.

Deborah Hay’s No Time to Fly here at Danspace in 2010. Her simple and spare clear movement taught me the rewards of close looking.
