The Handsome Execution of a Flower

“Dorvillier transforms herself—through stunning costumes constructed of lace, leather, lengths of red satin, and other seductive materials—into a woman, probably a professional in the sex trade, who both asserts her strength (in symmetrical poses) and plays coyly with the viewer (in kittenish off-kilter ones).”
“Dorvillier stretches and jigs, throws herself down and rolls on her back, ties her limbs in knots. It’s gorgeous but bewildering, a portrait that does not resolve. Kenta Nagai provides the evocative score, and David Herrigel the harsh, dramatic lighting.” – Elizabeth Zimmer, The Village Voice (November 14th, 2000)
Why Flags?
Flags are all over our home in St. Mark’s Church at the moment because they represent A catalogue of steps. Each fantastic flag, designed by Paris-based Olivier Vadrot, signifies a past performance of DD’s and provide the fragmented choreographic material that make up A catalogue of steps.
Visit us each Wednesday (plus one Saturday!) to see the past reinvented!
