Food for Thought
May 2, 2015
Then (top) and now (bottom), from our archives: Iréne Hultman curated Food for Thought during our 20th Anniversary season. She’s done it again for our 40th!
May 2, 8pm: A.N.D. YES! curated by Iréne Hultman
Feat. Alex Escalante, Niall Jones, and Dai Jian
When asked to curate you ask yourself – who, what, why?
Alex I met performing Xavier le Roy’s Retrospective at PS1/MoMA, putting a face to a name I have known for years. Then seeing and experiencing his dancing, his political involvement, his absolute expertise and generosity – I thought – more people need to experience him. So grateful he said – Yes.
Niall I have seen and admired for a long time as a dancer, his extra ordinary capability of captivating his audience and his superb dancing. Then I experienced his own artistic voice, his exploration, research and sincerity in what he was undertaking – I thought – more people need to see this. So grateful he said – Yes.
Dai Jian I met during my rehearsal directorship with the Trisha Brown Dance Company. His warming up was out of this world. His dancing, his intuitive movement knowledge also out of this world. His own dance artistry needs to be shared, his thoughts and knowledge shared – more people need to see him. So grateful he said – Yes.
Enjoy these three beautiful minds giving you food for your soul.
THANK YOU Danspace Project, especially Abby, Carol, Leo and Lily for feeding us.
