Utterances From The Chorus, Volume II

Image description: Tropical fruits artfully arranged: pomelo, pears, dragonfruit, and melons of all varieties and sizes, skewered to form a tall tower of fruit. Attached to the tower are many ropes and strings. Two lengths of strung puffed grains, like beads on a string, hang from the rope. Also fastened to the structure of rope, by metal clips, are two round, paper-thin, pieces of fruit- leather—it almost looks like tie-dyed garments hanging from a clothesline. Written in big white letters over the image are the words, Danspace Project, Utterances From The Chorus, Volume 2, Platform 2020.

Volume II of PLATFORM 2020: Utterances From The Chorus is a virtual catalogue that contains memories and reflections of the multi-week Platform, co-curated by Danspace Project Executive Director & Chief Curator, Judy Hussie-Taylor and guest-artist curator, Okwui Okpokwasili.

During the Platform, artists and audience gathered around questions, including: How do we weave a collective song? How do we hum, utter, and gesture together? These questions became increasingly crucial and complicated when the latter half of the Platform events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This catalogue has become not only an account for the Platform events themselves but a container for significant world shifts that 2020 ushered, through the eyes of these writers, artists, and thinkers, who continue to hum, utter, and gesture in these digital pages.

Volume I of the catalogue, which traces the curators’ lines of inquiry and the processes and practices of artists and writers leading up to the Platform, was released in February 2020 in print and is now available also as a virtual catalogue.
