LEGENDS & VISIONARIES: THE NEXT ERA
Krasner and Pollock/Uncaged
Writing and Direction by Sarah Joyce
Choreography by Antonia Franceschi
Original Score by Claire van Kampen
Two of the twentieth century’s most fearless artists. One marriage. Once catastrophe. And one woman who turned an unbearable grief into some of the boldest paintings of her career. NYTB presents a dance theatre portrait of Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock and the period that gave rise to Krasner’s “Umber” paintings, including the raw, intensely gestural canvas “Uncaged.” The piece ends where that painting begins: Krasner disappearing into the work itself.
In 2016, Antonia Franceschi — a former New York City Ballet dancer — world-premiered a new work for Danspace Project’s 40th anniversary. This season, she returns as NYTB’s artistic director. Full circle. This bold new work is executive produced by Sir Mark Rylance along with Douglas Denoff and Impermanence. Join us as we usher in a new era at New York Theatre Ballet.
