PLATFORM 2020 catalogues Volume I & II are now available for free as digital publications!

February 22, 2021

Image description: Tropical fruits artfully arranged: pomelo, pears, dragonfruit, and melons of all varieties and sizes, skewered to form a tall tower of fruit. Attached to the tower are many ropes and strings. Two lengths of strung puffed grains, like beads on a string, hang from the rope. Also fastened to the structure of rope, by metal clips, are two round, paper-thin, pieces of fruit- leather—it almost looks like tie-dyed garments hanging from a clothesline. Written in big white letters over the image are the words, Danspace Project, Utterances From The Chorus, Volume 2, Platform 2020.

PLATFORM 2020: Utterances From The Chorus, co-curated by Okwui Okpokwasili & Judy Hussie-Taylor was launched on February 22, 2020. One year later, today, we are thrilled to release the free virtual Platform Catalogue Volume II and to re-release Volume I also as a free virtual catalogue.

PLATFORM 2020: Utterances From The Chorus, Volume II, now live on our website, features contributions from Chanelle Adams, devynn emory, Saidiya Hartman, Hussie-Taylor, Kristin Juarez, Ralph Lemon, Seta Morton, Okpokwasili, Angie Pittman, Legacy Russell, Samita Sinha, Nora Raine Thompson, and Asiya Wadud! During the Platform, artists and audience gathered around key questions, including: How do we weave a collective song? How do we hum, utter, and gesture together? When the pandemic shut down made in-person gathering impossible, these questions felt even more urgent. Through the eyes of artists and writers, Volume II is a digital gathering place acknowledging the Platform and the significant world shifts that 2020 ushered in. It follows Volume I, which was released February, 2020 in print.

Both Volumes were co-edited by Hussie-Taylor, Seta Morton, and Okpokwasili and designed by Judith Walker. Volume II features photos of the Platform events by Ian Douglas’ and many images of the edible installation by Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Quori Theodor, and Precious Okoyomon of Spiral Theory Test Kitchen, which was constructed for the February 22, 2020 Platform opening event and Volume I book launch.
